Energy Vault Announces Strategic Agreement to Deploy 1.25 GW of Integrated Power Infrastructure for Hyperscale AI Data Centers
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Energy Vault Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: NRGV) today announced that it has signed a strategic commercial agreement to supply battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid-forming power conversion systems, and AI infrastructure control software for the initial deployment of a total of 1.25 gigawatts (GW) of integrated power infrastructure to support hyperscale AI data centers.
The agreement establishes a repeatable AI power infrastructure platform that combines dispatchable generation, intelligent battery energy storage, grid-forming inverter systems, advanced AI infrastructure control software, and turnkey EPC and factory integration into a single integrated solution designed for hyperscale AI data centers and high-performance computing campuses.
Together, the parties will deploy fully integrated off-grid power systems capable of bringing AI computing capacity online significantly faster than traditional utility interconnection timelines, while providing the reliability, resilience, and operational flexibility required by next-generation AI workloads. Initial deployments are expected to be completed within the next four to twelve months, supporting accelerated power delivery schedules that do not depend on traditional utility grid interconnection timelines.
As hyperscale AI infrastructure continues to expand globally, developers increasingly require complete power infrastructure platforms rather than individual technologies. AI computing loads can change rapidly as GPU clusters ramp up or down, imposing stringent requirements on transients, voltage, frequency, and power quality that generation assets alone may not efficiently satisfy. This integrated solution is designed to meet these needs by intelligently coordinating generation, storage, and site electrical infrastructure in real time through a fully integrated architecture. The solution also supports FEOC-compliant deployments and provides a repeatable reference architecture for integrated digital controls, power distribution, grid stabilization, and proactive load optimization.
Unlike traditional deployments where each asset operates independently, this integrated platform continuously orchestrates and optimizes generation, battery storage, power conversion, redundancy systems, and electrical infrastructure as a single intelligent power plant. Energy Vault's AI infrastructure control software serves as the mission-critical operating system for site power infrastructure, dynamically balancing power flows, maintaining voltage and frequency stability, reducing generator cycling, improving fuel efficiency, and ensuring the fast response required for highly dynamic AI computing environments. The modular architecture also enables customers to deploy AI infrastructure before permanent grid interconnection, while providing the flexibility to integrate utility power, renewable energy, and additional distributed energy resources as campus needs expand. The national-level turnkey power generation EPC contractor has decades of experience in delivering complex power generation projects, covering natural gas reciprocating engines, gas turbines, diesel power generation, solar PV, and emerging hydrogen energy technologies. Energy Vault complements these capabilities with its extensive product portfolio and global project experience in utility-scale battery energy storage systems, intelligent energy management software, and hybrid power plant integration.
Energy Vault Chairman and CEO Robert Piconi said: "Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the way critical power infrastructure is designed, deployed, and operated. Customers are no longer procuring a single technology—they need integrated power infrastructure that can deliver reliable, always-available power at unprecedented speed and scale. Through this agreement, we have created a highly differentiated platform that combines industry-leading power generation, intelligent energy storage, and advanced plant software into an integrated solution purpose-built for AI infrastructure."
"As the largest single contract signed to date, this milestone agreement marks another significant step in Energy Vault's strategic evolution from an energy storage technology innovator to a comprehensive energy infrastructure provider. More importantly, it establishes a repeatable commercial platform that we believe will support significant future expansion as global hyperscale AI infrastructure investment continues to accelerate."
A senior executive from Energy Vault's strategic power infrastructure partner said: "Energy Vault's BESS, grid-forming technology, and software platform are at the core of this solution. By integrating these systems into our modular plant designs, we can rapidly bring large-capacity, reliable power online while meeting the performance, scalability, and flexibility required by hyperscale campuses."
The two parties plan to jointly explore more hyperscale, new cloud, and AI infrastructure market opportunities, particularly in regions where limited grid capacity, extended utility interconnection timelines, and growing power demand are driving the need for rapid deployment of behind-the-meter and bridge power solutions. The partnership aims to become a scalable commercial platform capable of supporting significant future expansion beyond the initial contract deployment.About Energy Vault
